Choices Centre is a pregnancy support project of Kings Community Projects (NPO 190-607), based in Pietermaritzburg. Our vision is to see men, women and children empowered to make informed decisions regarding their reproductive health; through education and counselling.
We aim to inform our clients about the different options available to them regarding an unplanned or crisis pregnancy, namely; parenting and adoption. We also provide pre/post-abortion counselling and healing, as well as miscarriage/still-birth loss healing. Our goal is to enable our clients to make an informed decision about their pregnancy, and then continue working with clients throughout their pregnancy via counselling and support groups. We offer some practical assistance for our new moms in the form of a ‘baby pack’, and we try to offer practical assistance for clients who are particularly in need. We want to ensure that no woman or family has to face a crisis pregnancy or loss alone.
At Choices, we also offer some prevention work to local schools, discussing topics such as puberty, the body, healthy relationships and teenage pregnancy. We hope by doing this we can raise awareness to the extremely high statistics of teenage pregnancy in South Africa and help equip children and teenagers with safe and true knowledge that they can use to make healthy, informed decisions.
